Journal Front Cover

Reader journal is an official interdisciplinary scholarly publication of the School of Engineering and the Built Environment, University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom established in 2007. Reader offers an outlet for the dissemination of rigorous, critical and original research outputs, viewpoints, reviews and reports that concern the social, economic, legal, environmental, managerial, developmental and administrative aspects of land and properties in both the developed and developing economies. It is now apparent that the long omission of land and real estate in the economic development dialogue until quite recently was a mistake with costly effects particularly on developing economies. It is also now widely accepted particularly by the main players in international development such as the World Bank and the DFID that the continuing international quest for poverty alleviation, sustainable development and a considerable reduction in the rate of climate change may be unsuccessful if the land question, especially in the developing world is not carefully considered.

Presently, the connection between land and real estate on one hand and development economics on the other is largely tenuous and there is still no settled theory that incontrovertibly specifies the best way of making land and real estate resources of society work for and not against the economic development goals of the society. The intellectual exchanges induced by Reader journal are aimed at provoking serious debate and research to provide guidance for government policies and to foster the development of sound theories of land management for economic development. The main areas of the debate will centre on but not limited to land and real estate in the contexts of:

  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Management and Corporate Strategy
  • Public Policy and Administration
  • Emerging Economies
  • Developing Economies
